About
Isabel began playing piano and writing songs at age 11, eventually fuelling her emergence into the music world in 2021 with debut single ‘Catharsis’, a move heavily supported by Sunderland’s Young Musicians Project. In its first few months of release, the track - described by NARC. Magazine as ‘a glittering reflection of contemporary pop’ - won over local radio and press, as well as solidifying a spot as a UK Songwriting Contest finalist (a position which she held for two consecutive years). This success led to an explosive 2023 for the English songwriter, who was awarded a Northern Writers Award for her lyricism alongside support from We Make Culture, PRS, Generator and more via their coveted Next Steps programme.A myriad of singles early in the year cemented Isabel’s presence in the industry for her introspective lyricism and tranquil voice. Venues such as The Glasshouse International Centre for Music and The Fire Station have played host to Isabel alongside her ‘evocative’ and ‘ever-evolving’ live band.Late 2023 brought Isabel Maria’s debut EP, a collection of six songs written on walks (aptly titled ‘The Melodramatic Milers Club’). Press described the project as ‘hypnotic and expansive’ and this message was consolidated by a sellout release show in Sunderland.Influenced by Olivia Rodrigo, Joni Mitchell and Phoebe Bridgers, Isabel is developing a close fan base of sad music lovers.‘Isabel’s songwriting prowess is evident.’ - Conversations About Her‘Isabel Maria has arrived fully formed.’ - The Crack‘Lyrically beautiful with enchanting melodies.’ - North East Lifestyle

AddictedWith a catchy pop sound akin to Olivia Rodrigo, Lorde or Taylor Swift, Isabel Maria’s new song breezes in jauntily. It’s a stealthy move providing a bright, fresh sound alongside the lyrics focussing on the naivety and ultimate toxicity of a one-sided relationship. The songwriting, aided by production from South Shields’ Harbourmaster, is succinct and Isabel Maria’s voice sparkles as she narrates her cautionary tale.MATT YOUNG ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3RD, 2023
